A lens life tell-all from beauty blogger, Hani Hanss

  • 23/09/2019

Hi everyone!

My name is Hani. I'm a beauty, modest fashion and lifestyle blogger, an author... and a long-term lens wearer!

Let me start by telling you about my contact lens journey...

I have always been into beauty, but also have pretty much always had terrible eye sight.

I began wearing contact lenses just before my high school graduation. I remember loving my make-up at my graduation ceremony, but suffering throughout the evening with lack of vision - it was either wear glasses (and suffer from glasses sweat lines), or don't wear glasses (and wear make-up that stays flawless). I opted for the latter, and I think its safe to say my decision was not the most practical. But hey, it was the best I could do at the time.

Fast forward a few years and I knew I had to make sure I avoided this mistake when it came to my university graduation. I figured out a way to get the best of both worlds - contact lenses. For the first time, I was able to have flawless, long lasting make-up without any smudges under my eyes - PLUS great vision. All my prayers were answered.

Now that I'm beauty blogging with contact lenses...

I love experimenting with my make-up, especially my eye make-up. Contact lenses allow me to get more creative because, unlike glasses, they don’t cover all my hard work!

I'll admit that in the past I've felt hesitant to wear lenses and a little skeptical because of all the horror stories I've stumbled across online, but I've learnt that that that's all they are - horror stories! We just need to be sensible and responsible with our eye care routines. For example, taking your eye make-up off at night is an important step in ensuring your eyes stay healthy. As a beauty blogger, taking my make-up off at the end of the day is second nature to me, so once I introduced the removal of my contact lenses into this routine, I've been learning to really enjoy this extra step - to me, there is no feeling more satisfying than removing my lenses at the end of the day.

What I wish I knew before wearing lenses...

I wish that before I started wearing lenses, I looked around and tried out
different brands. At first, I just let the opticians convince me that their branded
lenses were the best for me. Had I done a bit more research, I would have saved A LOT of money and found lenses that were far more comfortable and convenient.

I also wish I knew to wear lenses over glasses sooner - maybe then my high school graduation pictures would have been saved along with my university graduation photos... ha!

What I think about dailies...

I find daily lenses are perfect for my lifestyle. I remember the first time I tried yearly contacts, I always worried about whether I actually cleaned them properly before storing them and used to feel so anxious about wearing them again - I had no idea if they were really clean or if I had done it completely wrong.

With my dailies, it's so satisfying to remove my lenses and not worry about cleaning them for next time. I love that daily lenses save me huge amounts of hassle, as I can simply snap open a fresh clean pair the following day!

Which lenses do I wear...

After wearing contacts for about 6 months, it really started to feel expensive. Then one day, a friend told me about Waldo. When I looked them up online, I realised I could cut my spending on lenses in half. I started a subscription straight away and soon found there were so many other benefits - I loved how convenient the subscription plan was, I found my eyes felt so much more hydrated and I no longer had to spend time waiting for my lenses to be ready at the opticians. YAY! Fast-forward a year and I'm still going strong with my Waldo lenses - they're extremely comfortable, affordable and beyond convenient!

I am so glad that I began wearing contacts; it has made day-to-day life so much
more convenient and has encouraged me to have fun with my make-up again (check out my instagram video below).

Goodbye to the days of going to the store to purchase my lenses and hello to the delivery life!
