See the World with James Thompson

Today we’re seeing the world with James Thompson. James is originally from Sydney but has been living in Hackney, London for the last 3 years. He owns the account @food_feels which focuses on food and travel, featuring everything from chilled out street markets, cafes and bars to high-end restaurants and luxurious hotels. Impressively, all images on his account have been taken by James, no re-posts. He started the account in February 2014 as a hobby and since then, he’s been lucky enough to work with some of the most amazing restaurants, hotels, tourism boards and even an airline.

We caught up with James to discover his top spots around the world (no surprise that his favourite bar lies behind a fridge door…)

Hey James, what’s the most amazing city you’ve visited in the world?

New York City. It’s a city I can keep going back to and I can never get enough of it. I’ve spent over 2 months in total there now and I haven’t even scratched the surface. Apart from London it has one of the most vibrant and interesting food scenes in the world right now.

Share with us a hidden gem you’ve uncovered during your travels.

Recently it would have to be a speakeasy bar in Barcelona which is now one of my favourite bars. El Paradiso bar is hidden behind a fridge door in a Pastrami shop in Barcelona. We had a very fun night there, some of the best cocktails I’ve had too.

What’s in your suitcase? Tell us about your travel essentials.

My camera (Sony a7), my laptop and my portable phone chargers are the must haves when I’m travelling. Chargers are just as important as passports!

We’re all about experiences that blow you away and stay with you always. Do you have a favourite travel memory?

It would be visiting the Amalfi coast last year. We had a week there with absolutely no plans and it was perfect. I don’t think anywhere in the world is like the Amalfi coast and it’s charm.

What’s the most breathtaking view you’ve encountered?

That’s a difficult one! The top would have to be Santorini. We visited last Summer and on our first night we had dinner in a hotel in Oia which was incredible with views across the island.

Where/what is next on your bucket list?

Mexico. I am obsessed with Mexican food and I’m so interested by their culture. It’s a place I have always wanted to visit, particularly Mexico city however I want to dedicate a good amount of time to explore it. Hopefully this year!

During your travels, how do you look after your eyes?

Plenty of sleep. And avoid air conditioning when it’s not needed!

Thanks James! Safe travels 🙂
